The easiest way to empty the trash Bin in Kubuntu, is to right-click on the trash bin and select the “Empty Trash” option. “Empty Trash” is the very first option in the menu, but your eye is naturally drawn to the “Remove Entry Trash” option, with the big red X.

Well, I’ve done this more than once. While a missing trash bin isn’t a big deal, it can be an annoyance.

Most seasoned Kubuntu/KDE users will already know the steps I’m about to list. Maybe this is a refresher or maybe you are new to KDE/Kubuntu. My guess though, is eventually, you will need this information.

The easiest way to Restore the Trash Bin in Kubuntu is:

  1. In KDE, open the Dolphin File Manager
  2. Press Ctrl + L to display the “Editable Location Bar.”
  3. In the “Editable Location Bar” type:
    trash:/
    and hit the key
  4. Drag the icon to the left of “trash:/” in the “Editable Location Bar” to the “Places Menu” usually found at the left of the window.
  5. Right-click on the blank folder, created in the “Places Menu” and select the option shown as:
